ESPHome gives makers an option to expose ESP32-based Zigbee sensors using the standard measurement formats understood by other devices. A temperature sensor can use Temperature Measurement instead of a generic input, opening the possibility of binding it directly to a compatible Zigbee thermostat.
Contributor luar123 adds formats for temperature, humidity, pressure, flow, light level, fine particles, carbon dioxide and occupancy. The option improves how ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT interpret reporting and measurement types, but does not automatically create a binding. Existing generic reports remain the default, and the standard formats do not carry custom sensor names.
