Music Assistant brings local folders, connected drives and network shares into one Local files setup. People can browse for a music folder instead of typing its server path, and household members allowed to add music sources can choose from storage made available by an administrator.

A Storage page under System manages those locations and shows which music sources use them. Existing SMB and NFS network-share sources convert to Local files at startup while keeping their libraries, playlists and access rules. In the Home Assistant app, their shares appear under the common media folder, where other apps can see them too.

Marcel van der Veldt also protects against treating an unavailable drive or share as an empty music folder. The conversion removes the old SMB cache mode; Home Assistant app installations can pin only SMB versions 1.0 or 2.0. Docker installations can use only folders mapped into their container.
