ESPHome corrects a Bluetooth proxy failure where repeatedly abandoned connection attempts could leave the radio unable to connect to any device, even though the proxy reported free connection slots. Cancelling an attempt also cancels the pending operation in the Bluetooth stack.

Michael Heichler verified the correction on an Everything Presence Lite: the original firmware failed on the seventh aborted attempt, while the corrected version accepted a real device after runs of nine and 21 cancellations. This is his first contribution to ESPHome.

The cancellation needs ESP-IDF 5.5.5 or 6.0.1 and newer compatible framework versions; older versions keep the previous cancellation behavior. J. Nick Koston also guards against a stale queued connection that could crash an active Bluetooth device, applying that guard only to framework versions missing the upstream correction.
