Nabu Casa plans to rename Home Assistant Cloud to Home Assistant Link on December 2. The company says the subscription stays the same and existing subscribers do not need to do anything.
Carl Albertsson explains that the old name led some people to think Home Assistant runs in the cloud. It continues to run locally at home; the optional subscription connects services such as remote access, voice assistants and online backups. Ending that subscription does not stop the underlying smart home working.
Nabu Casa says the majority of subscription profits fund the Open Home Foundation. The announcement invites community feedback before the intended change in Home Assistant’s December 2026.12 release.
