Assist corrects a failure that could leave a voice device silent on the first request after more than five minutes without speech. Devices waiting for Home Assistant to detect a wake word could receive an answer whose audio link had already expired; repeating the question immediately worked.
Franck Nijhof makes the speech stream’s expiry count from when its answer is produced. Producing the answer also restores a stream already removed from the temporary store, keeping its audio available for the device to fetch.
