ESPHome devices gain an option to initiate their own encrypted connection instead of waiting for Home Assistant to reach them. A device can remember the last compatible client and call it back when incoming connections stop, or use a fixed destination when its network blocks incoming access.

J. Nick Koston supplies the firmware counterpart to the Home Assistant support reported on September 11. That earlier work still required compatible device firmware and an initial Home Assistant setup in which the device was reachable; the new option does not remove that setup requirement.

Encryption verifies the other end. J. Nick Koston tested successful connections and failure recovery on a D1 mini and Pico W. Jesse Hills reviewed the implementation and guide.
