ESPHome Device Builder directs the first custom installation on a device with vendor-signed firmware to USB. After adopting such a device, the owner’s build is normally unsigned, so attempting to install it wirelessly is rejected by the firmware’s signature check.

Keith Burzinski makes the installation dialog explain the requirement and disables the wireless route. Adoption keeps the existing hostname until that first USB installation, avoiding a rename that would also attempt a wireless update. After unsigned firmware is installed, wireless installation is offered again.

Burzinski tested the flow on a Home Assistant Connect AUX-2. This is his first contribution to the Device Builder frontend, reviewed by J. Nick Koston.
