Home Assistant’s iPhone app adds optional readings for a folding phone’s hinge angle, hinge status and pose. Automations can distinguish a closed or fully open phone and use the angle between its halves.

Bruno Pantaleão Gonçalves derives the pose from the hinge and device orientation, with states including book, laptop and flat face down. Ambiguous positions remain partially open rather than guessing a pose.

The sensors depend on the hinge interfaces introduced in iOS 27.1 and update only while the app is on screen. They are opt-in and disappear on devices that report no hinge.
