ESPHome adds Wi-Fi Easy Connect setup for ESP32 devices: the device supplies a QR-code payload, and a compatible phone scans it to send the network credentials. Makers can display the code through an ESPHome automation instead of requiring someone to type credentials into a fallback web page.

The device saves the network for later restarts and uses ESPHome’s ordinary connection and retry handling. Setup starts when no network is configured, or after configured networks fail for a chosen timeout. A Pixel phone successfully set up an ESP32-S3 in testing, but failed to complete setup on a classic ESP32; phone and chip compatibility matters.
