ESPHome connects automations to a television’s HDMI control bus

ESPHome adds a connection to HDMI-CEC, the control channel that televisions and connected equipment use to exchange commands. Makers can trigger automations from messages such as a remote’s volume button and send commands such as putting the connected equipment into standby.

This first component supplies the message transport, receiving and sending commands from configured automations. Automatic device replies and a fuller message decoder remain follow-up work. It was tested on ESP32-S3, ESP32-C3 and ESP8266 hardware.
