ESPHome adds an optional current budget for addressable LED strips. It estimates demand from the colours and brightness of each displayed frame, then reduces the physical output uniformly when the estimate exceeds the configured limit.
Marcus Voß’s work applies across addressable-light drivers, including effects and transitions, without changing the brightness setting shown to the user. The estimate depends on the maker’s per-channel current values; it is not a current measurement, and rounding can leave a small overshoot. His companion guide is his first contribution to ESPHome’s documentation.
