Home Assistant lets an automation target a whole room, floor or label while leaving selected entities, devices or areas out. The exclusions are resolved each time the automation runs, so adding a light to an excluded room does not accidentally bring it into the action.

The target picker gains an Exclude button and shows how many entities each exception removes. Checkboxes in the target details offer another way to refine the selection, while exclusions that no longer affect anything appear separately for cleanup.

Jan-Philipp Benecke supplies the matching controls and backend. The work implements the public opportunity shaped by Niels and Marcin Bauer; Niels reports the related implementation complete and reopens the discussion for feedback while its status remains Building. Excluding a group removes the group entity itself, not its individual members.
