ESPHome adds a Bluetooth MIDI connection for makers who want to use a musical keyboard, pad controller or foot switch as an input. Notes, knob movements and other MIDI messages can trigger automations, and the device can send MIDI messages back.

Bogdan Rădulescu brings the generic connection from his external component, which he reports using for four months with an M-Vave SMC-PAD and a Korg microKEY Air. Assigning particular buttons or notes to lights and other actions remains up to the maker; the component does not create those controls automatically.

This is Rădulescu’s first contribution to ESPHome.
