ESPHome’s connection library detects devices that return from a quick power cut while their old connection still looks active. It probes again when the restarted device announces itself, even if an earlier keepalive request is still awaiting an answer.
The contributor describes a reconnect wait falling from up to 20 seconds to roughly one second after the device returns to the network. Probing becomes the default for applications sharing network discovery, while the command-line log connection keeps its existing default.
