The Open Home Foundation’s October device-database survey snapshot finds people looking for clearer answers before buying smart-home hardware. Of 740 respondents, 652 selected pre-purchase research as a use for the database. Local control was a critical device attribute for 631, close behind communication protocols at 657.
The gaps mirror those priorities. Unclear compatibility information was selected by 496 respondents, while 476 wanted better information about local control. Those questions allowed multiple choices, so the counts overlap.
The snapshot is dated October 15 and adds 25 responses to August’s total. Its participants are mostly technically experienced, and 551 are based in Europe. These findings describe that survey sample rather than every smart-home household.
