ESPHome stops a failed read through a DS248x bridge from appearing as a valid 0°C temperature. When the bridge could not select the requested sensor channel, returned zero bytes could pass the temperature sensor’s error check and become a misleading reading.
The bridge also recovers from temporary communication faults instead of remaining failed until a reboot. Commands wait while recovery restores the chip’s settings.
