Piper adds Lithuanian pronunciation support for people building local spoken voices. A bundled dictionary corrects word stress and preserves the language’s three pitch accents, distinctions that the existing pronunciation engine collapses even though they can change a word’s meaning.
The dictionary covers 189,262 word forms and works in both voice training and speech generation. It cannot distinguish words spelled alike whose accents depend on sentence context, and unknown words keep the underlying engine’s stress. A compatible Lithuanian voice model is required; this does not by itself add a voice to Home Assistant’s catalog.
RobertasTa makes a first contribution to Piper with the work, reviewed by Michael Hansen and yangfan-yf-yf. A check with a LIEPA-trained voice produced the same pronunciation symbols as the voice’s reference implementation for 200 sentences.
