Device makers building Sendspin products gain explicit terms for implementing the audio protocol. The specification adopts the Community Specification License 1.0, including a contributor patent commitment scoped to the protocol. The Sendspin name and logo remain separately governed trademarks.
Marcel van der Veldt also makes the Opus audio format optional for servers, citing licensing concerns for commercial implementers. Servers must support FLAC and uncompressed PCM; players must accept at least one of those formats, and audio sources must be able to produce one. This keeps a common format available without requiring Opus.
The specification’s patent commitment excludes codecs, music sourcing, analysis and interfaces. These changes set implementation rules for manufacturers and developers; they do not add support for a new speaker. Paulus Schoutsen and Chris approved the licensing work.
