From Monday, October 5 through Sunday, October 11, Home Assistant connected more of the steps in troubleshooting an automation, ESPHome extended device setup, and Music Assistant paired richer playback with lower storage and processing costs.
Home Assistant’s automation changes connect testing with diagnosis. Disabled steps can be tried without enabling them in ordinary runs; a trace links to the exact script it started; and failures in 20 integrations reach the caller instead of appearing successful. Together, the week’s work makes it easier to distinguish a step that was skipped, a child routine that ran and a command that failed.
ESPHome’s setup work covers different points in a device’s life. Ready-made images and serial Wi-Fi setup broaden the browser route for seven Beken, Lightning and Realtek chip types. Signed devices get an explicit USB route for their first custom installation, while device-defined setup pages let makers explain settings and ask owners to choose household entities. The latter requires Home Assistant 2026.11; it is separate from firmware installation.
Music Assistant pairs richer transitions with lower costs for large collections. Its audio-analysis storage becomes smaller and separate from the music library, long shuffled queues are ordered in manageable batches, and Smart Fades gain transitions for songs that cannot share a beat. The combined direction matters for people who want an ordinary mixed collection to play smoothly without making its size a burden.
