ESPHome adds a way for ESP32 devices using ESP-IDF to reach an MQTT broker behind a proxy or tunnel that only passes web traffic. MQTT carries sensor readings and commands; the new transport sends those messages over WebSocket connections, including an encrypted option for HTTPS routes.
Encrypted connections check the broker against the firmware’s certificate bundle when no custom authority is configured. Ordinary TCP stays the default, and other chip platforms and ESP32 Arduino builds are outside this addition’s scope.
