ESPHome 2026.10 brings faster builds and smaller updates

The October release also broadens browser flashing, with settings to check before upgrading.

ESPHome 2026.10 arrives today with less waiting when building and updating homemade devices. Its native ESP8266 build tools become the default, removing the need for Rosetta on Apple Silicon Macs. The first build after upgrading starts clean; the older PlatformIO path remains an opt-out until its planned removal in April 2027.

Home Assistant filters media folders that cannot search

A local filter narrows long channel lists and other loaded folders without requiring support from the source.

Reviewed by MindFreeze

Home Assistant adds a filter to media-browser folders containing ten or more items when their source does not support search. A long television channel list can be narrowed by name instead of scrolling through every channel.

Matter.js keeps device pairings through controller upgrades

Version 0.18 also supports Matter 1.6.1 and checks whether device implementations meet the specification.

Makers of Matter controllers can move to Matter.js’s completed new controller interface without pairing every device again. ESPHome gives doorbells and spoken alerts their own volume

An optional setting keeps idle announcements from inheriting the last music level.

Reviewed by bdraco

An ESPHome speaker’s next doorbell, timer or spoken announcement need not be almost silent because music was turned down the night before—or startlingly loud because it was left high. An optional announcement volume applies when an announcement begins while normal media is idle, paused or off.

A connected analysis server finds similar tracks and offers optional text searches across Jellyfin, Navidrome and Plex.

Home Assistant finds the right overnight transit departure

GTFS timetables keep their service dates and agency timezone, with a change needed for manual timezone offsets.

Reviewed by balloob, thecode, erwindouna

Home Assistant corrects transit departure readings around midnight and across timezones. Night routes whose services all run after midnight stop incorrectly reporting that no departures remain, while tomorrow’s first journey receives tomorrow’s date instead of a timestamp in the past.

Home Assistant keeps energy costs through restarts and unit changes

Usage while the system is stopped gains a cost, and changing a meter’s display unit stops creating false charges.

Reviewed by abmantis

Home Assistant preserves the last meter reading it priced when it shuts down, allowing the next start to account for consumption during the interruption. Previously, the first reading after a restart became a fresh baseline without a cost; for a meter read once a day, that could omit an entire day’s usage.

Music Assistant stops newer Cast speakers cutting streams short

A default connection change avoids an observed limit that stopped radio and skipped tracks after a few minutes.

Music Assistant changes its streaming default for newer Android-based Cast receivers, including the 2026 Google Home Speaker and Android TV sticks. These receivers stopped a stream after about 24 MiB when sent a stated content length—roughly ten minutes of high-quality MP3 or three to four minutes of FLAC—then advanced the queue or stopped radio.

Home Assistant handles the repeated hour when clocks go back

Schedule helpers stop repeatedly firing a past timer, while time triggers and statistics keep the correct period.

Reviewed by balloob

Home Assistant fixes a schedule-helper failure during the repeated hour when daylight saving time ends. A timer could select the first occurrence of a time that had already passed and immediately reschedule itself thousands of times per second; it now chooses the upcoming occurrence.
