Home Assistant preserves the last meter reading it priced when it shuts down, allowing the next start to account for consumption during the interruption. Previously, the first reading after a restart became a fresh baseline without a cost; for a meter read once a day, that could omit an entire day’s usage.

A related correction handles changes in meter units. Switching from kilowatt-hours to watt-hours no longer subtracts values in different units and charges roughly the whole meter reading again. Energy, gas and water cost calculations convert the earlier reading when possible; an incompatible change starts pricing from the new reading.
