Home Assistant adds live video and snapshots for Matter 1.5 cameras through its existing camera interface. Artur Pragacz connects the camera support to the Matter server, while the video travels directly between the browser and camera.
The camera’s privacy settings determine whether it reports itself on, and active sessions determine its streaming state. Still images arrive as JPEG snapshots. Discovery requires a server with the camera interface introduced in schema 14.
This implements part of the first camera experience shaped in the public roadmap by Matthias Kerstner: using Home Assistant’s existing camera views. The new integration covers streams and snapshots, without establishing recording, two-way audio or full pan-and-tilt controls.
