Home Assistant keeps a failed message in its conversation history together with the error and any actions the assistant already took. A person can then continue the conversation instead of losing the turn when an AI service stops responding.
A conversation also handles one message at a time. A second message sent before the first finishes receives a busy error instead of competing with it for the same history. Scripts making parallel requests need separate conversation identifiers or must wait for the answer.
