ESPHome 2026.10.2 fixes a wireless-update fault that could leave devices using the RTL8710B chip unable to start. Introduced in 2026.10.0, the problem could corrupt a compressed upload and still select the damaged firmware at restart, requiring a serial cable to recover the device.
Owners should update the ESPHome upload tool before updating affected devices. J. Nick Koston’s correction makes that tool send the first update to affected firmware without compression. The transfer takes longer, but later updates can use compression again after the corrected firmware is installed.
The correction also keeps refused or interrupted uploads from becoming the next boot image on LibreTiny devices. Hardware checks on RTL8710B, RTL8720C, BK7238 and LN882H boards confirmed that failed image checks and interrupted uploads preserved the running firmware.
