A new Nabu Casa guide explains why the closest Home Assistant Cloud server may not provide the quickest remote connection. According to the guide, selection uses measured round-trip times alongside available server capacity, with a preference for keeping the existing server to avoid needless moves.
The guide says blocked pings do not prevent remote access: if no measurement target answers, the previous selection method remains in use. After a server change, a stale DNS record can temporarily prevent access; clearing that cache can restore the connection.
